| Provenance: Sir Francis Hill (1899-1980), a leading historian of Lincoln and Lincolnshire, and the third Chancellor of the University of Nottingham. Sir Francis discovered this piece whilst excavating the site of Saint Peter at Arches, when the 18th century successor of the old church was taken down in 1933. Other fragments of 12th century work were found in the foundations. | |
